Criteria for which stream a band is played on

Post by digiguy »

I am curious as to what the criteria is for choosing where a bands music is played. Which stream? Rock or Metal? Maybe both?

I would believe this is a very subjective decision made by the powers to be  So I am curious how the decision is made.

Thanks for the great work making so many bands music accessible!!

Generally the "heavy prog" or "Progressive Rock/Metal" genre band designations are de-facto placed on the metal side. If I find something on the rock side that sounds too "metal" to me (as per my own biased, preconceived notions :D ), then I'll move it over to metal. It's definitely still a work in progress. Some bands like Riverside or Porcupine Tree I still can't decide on, so I put them on both. I'm open to moving bands if anyone feels certain bands are misplaced. There are probably some bands on the metal side that are too "light" and could be moved to the rock side.
Prog is ok but it needs more cowbell

Greatly appreciate the explanation and the work you do! :D I will insert opinion here on one band in particular and that being Galahad being on the rock side. I would put it on the metal side but thats just me... Thanks again!

Hi, I’m new to your site. And I really love it. I mostly listen to the metal side. I recognize many of the artists there. Not so much on the rock side oddly enough. Keep up the great work.
